who worked as the Chief Executive
of The New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation.
He's from Spain actually, from the South.
He doesn’t look like one though,
so calm and reflective.
He's a shrink, actually.
That could explain it.
I heard him in an interview some weeks ago
talking about depression, among many other things.
He said it’s one of the worst illnesses there is
because it steals hope.
A man is nothing without the hope and the energy
that give him the joy and the sense of living, he said.
He also said it's commonly mistaken with sadness.
We shouldn't let doctors
take sadness away from us, he said.
Everyone is entitled to his sadness.
There is nothing wrong about it,
it's only normal to feel that way.
That’s what he said.
And the guy knows better.
So everyone is entitled to his feelings.
Everyone is entitled to his hope.
In fact, hope feels good.
Whatever disappointments lying ahead
it shouldn’t be taken from us now.
It feels good feeling this way
and we are entitled to it.
It’s only normal.
